Washing your hair

Washing Frequency:

Though it may seem evident, you have to wash your hair when it is dirty, that is to say when the roots are greasy.

So, if you have the habit of washing your hair every day while you’re taking your shower, you will have to stop this bad habit. Obviously, your hair does not need to be washed and you damage them. This is going to increase your sebum production. You also may get dry ends and your roots might become greasy very quickly.
You have to try to space out your shampooing in order to manage and regulate this sebum production.
This may take some time but if you do it progressively, you can get good results.

However, if you don’t notice any improvement even when using shampoo alternatives (see below), don’t torture yourself just wash your hair when it is dirty.

The Shampoo:

How to choose:
How to choose your shampoo:
Choose the mildest possible shampoo. It is useless to use a carpet scouring solution or a garage oil cleaner for your hair. So, avoid shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate or ammonium lauryl sulfate.
Numerous shampoos contain silicones. These components allow you to coat the hair by providing softness and brightness. The drawback is that after a while, the silicones may suffocate your hair and dry it out. So, this can lead to the inverse effect than the one you were expecting: dry hair, rough, brittle, dull... So, mistrust components ending with –cones and –xanes.
For more clarity about the products to avoid in your shampoo, please refer to the chapter “Products to avoid”.

In retail, there are several kinds of shampoos: for dry, greasy, damaged hair... These are good tips or clues to make your choice depending on the nature of your hair.
Please note that a shampoo for dry hair is meant for a dry scalp. It is the same with a shampoo meant for greasy hair.

If you follow the aforementioned advice, you should find a good shampoo that will soothe your hair while washing it gently.
Our advice:
Choose a neutral base base that you could adapt in accordance with your hair’s needs.

In order to guide you, here is a simple recipe:
For 200 ml of neutral base:
1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin
1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
2 teaspoons of phytokeratin
1 teaspoon of aloe gel
Eventually 50 to 60 drops of essential oils adapted to your scalp.

How to apply your shampoo:
Wet your hair abundantly.
Apply a knob of shampoo (never more) on your roots. If the shampoo doesn’t foam enough, dilute it with water.
Massage and make the shampoo foam. Do not worry about the lengths.
Wait a little because the ingredients need a little time to take effect.
Rinse your hair abundantly while letting the shampoo run down the length. This is enough to wash them without harming them.

Alternatives:

Rinsing Only:
Instead of using a shampoo that is going to strip your hair, simply rinse it with water. By doing so, you may have the feeling of having washed it. You will find again the same sort of result as after a shampoo while avoiding the drawbacks of a daily washing.

Conditionner-Only Washing:
The conditioner-only washing allows you to wash your hair with a less aggressive product than a shampoo : this means a hair conditioner. Indeed, it contains washing agents that will allow you to gently wash your hair and to space out the shampoos. This method is particularly recommended for curly or frizzy hair.

Solid Soaps:
You can also use solid soaps in place of shampoo. Among these soaps, we recommend the Alep soap and the Medimix soap.
To apply these soaps, wet your hair and pass gently the soap on the damp roots in order to make it foam. As well as for the shampoo, don’t worry about the lengths.

Plants' powders:
Certain plants’ powders, mixed with water, constitute a paste that is very pleasant to use and washes your hair very gently.
For more information, please refer to chapter “Few plants”.

Le soin après-shampooing (AS):

How to choose your conditioner:
As for the shampoo, our main advice is : avoid the silicones that you can recognize generally by names ending by –cones and –xanes. For the other products to avoid please refer to the chapter “Products to avoid”.
The choice of a conditioner depends on the nature your hair, but trial and error may be necessary. It’s only this way that you will find a conditioner that will nourish your hair, make the combing easier without making them heavy or greasy.

How to apply your conditioner:
Too often, certain people apply it right to the roots. Yet, we have never heard anyone saying that they have had knots there.
Moreover, it may grease your roots and therefore force you to wash your hair more often.
We apply the conditioner on the lengths only (approximately, at the ear level) without putting too much on because this may make your hair heavy while emptying your bottle at a very high rate.
Keep waiting 5 minutes minimum before rinsing. If you wish, during this waiting time, you can detangle your hair with your fingers (like No) or with a wooden comb with large teeth (like Isa).
